32. Archaeobotany, Part 1 w/ Dr. Alan Farahani, Lydia Wolfe, and Carlos Romo-Caballero

Y'all, I've been waiting for this one a long time! I've wanted to have an archaeobotanist on with me since the show started, and was lucky enough to find 3! Dr. Alan Farahani and his undergraduate researchers, Lydia Wolfe and Carlos Romo-Caballero make up the Farahani Lab of Archaeobotany at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and study the archaeological remains of ancient agriculture and what those remains mean anthropologically. They were the PERFECT guests to wrap up year 1 of Planthropology and I hope you love this episode as much as I did!

29. Representation in STEM, Forest Product Sustainability, and The Treequel w/ Joe Vaughn

It's our second episode with Joe Vaughn! We talked about his day today responsibilities as a procurement forester, how climate change is affecting the forestry and timber industries, and about what it's like to be black in the green industry. We cover some heavy topics, but Joe is such a positive person and approaches inclusion, diversity, and representation in such a meaningful way, that I hope this leaves you inspired to be more inclusive and accepting in your own life. I know it was inspirational for me!

26. Grasslands, Grad School, and the Prairie Fairy w/ Dr. Kat Radicke

Prairies and grasslands are great, and so are people who study them. I chatted with the recently doctored Dr. Kat Radicke. We met in grad school and were pretty fast friends. She's charming, funny, and super smart and I think you're really going to enjoy hearing from her. We talk about everything from the stress and challenges of graduate school, to collecting cow burps and it was a lot of fun! This episode also contains trailers for the Plants and Pipettes and Bald Scientist podcasts at the end.

24. Deep Dive- Fixing Food Systems w/ Hallie Casey

It's time for our first Deep Dive episode! You may have noticed during this whole Covid crisis that some types of foods were pretty scarce on the shelves at your local grocery store. A lot of this is due to holes in the food supply chain. Hallie Casey from the One to Grow On podcast joins me again to talk about some of the ins and outs of food supply and how moving to local and regional market strategies can help fix some of the problems. Hallie is brilliant and well spoken and you're going to learn so much on today's episode!

23. Deep Roots: Remembering a Good Man

Today is different, my friends. My grandfather passed away the evening of Tuesday, July 28. If you've been listening for a while, you've heard me speak about him and how he was the one who started my love of plants in nature. Today's episode is the best I can do to pay tribute to him. He was good and kind and selfless. That's the best compliment I know how to give anyone.
